The JOTA event, organised by Kyle District Scouts, is being held at Tarbolton, a small village to the northeast of the town of Ayr.
Ayr is located 30 miles south of the City of Glasgow in Scotland.
Tarbolton has strong links with Robert Burns and the Bachelors Club can be found here..
The Radio Station is being run by Ayr Radio Club and the JOTI Station by Bob McIntyre of Kyle District Scouts. The JOTI event has not be centralised this year and will be operated by a number of individuals in various places around the District. Bob McIntyre will be operating a JOTI base over the week-end with members of Ayrshire Scouting dropping into take part and see what is happening. An additional page showing world times is available. This opens as another window and allows you to toggle between this page and the world times - useful when chatting on JOTI. Should the clock stop, simply reload the page.

The call sign for the week-end is: The JOTI base is running on a laptop computer, running as a server with another two machines running over a network. The server is a 133 Pentium with 24Mb RAM and the modem connection is at 33.6K The computer is linked through Bob's provider, to the Internet, using Netscape Communicator as a Browser and MIRC software being used to access IRC (Internet Chat Relay). The base is using one of the Scouting Servers and the #joti channel to chat with Scouts and Guides throughout the world.
The handle being used by this station will contain the word kyle_uk. Whilst most of the contacts until mid afternoon were from the UK with stations in Uistin the Hebrides Islands of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and various parts of England, contact was also made with Eire, Germany, Russia, Malta, Italy and America. The JOTI station was operated at various times over the week-end with Scouts and Gudies from all over the world being chatted with.
